NMC participation in Liwa Culture Forum and Exhibition (18th-25th April, 2009)

NMC management has always welcomed and supported the initiatives taken by the Walliy of Liwa for promoting social and business opportunities.

NMC’s active participation in the Liwa Culture Forum & Exhibition (18th-25th April, 2009) reflects the strong bond between the Company and the local community. Audience and visitors could palpably feel that appreciation from Walliys, General Government Directors, managers of local Government Departments and members of the local community from towns and villages where NMC has been operating.

NMC main sponsor of the ‘Shinas through History’ Exhibition

NMC was the main sponsor of the ‘Shinas through History’ Exhibition held in Shinas from the 10th to the 14th of November 2008. The event was held under the auspices of His Excellency Abdullah Al- Qatabi where the company received three awards mainly for the company’s community development projects.

The exhibition, ‘Shinas in history’ included a variety of activities which included a cultural forum which took place along with the exhibition in the evening time.

Women from the ‘Shinas Women’s’ Association’ illustrated a beautiful gathering to demonstrate handcrafts such as swing, cooking, milking, etc. Shinas children also participated by wearing their traditional clothes and displayed an Omani traditional clothes show. A group of men also illustrated the old Bedouin life where they brought their old guns, knives and handmade tools and fishing nets so as to demonstrate men’s occupations and hand crafts in the past in Shinas region.

NMC had a beautiful stand display where school and college students visited the company’s booth and asked questions about mining activities and were introduced to the different departments in the company. Students also used the microscope displayed in the booth to learn from the company’s geologists the different types of rocks and Shinas geology.

Visitors and students were also given gift items embossed with the NMC logo together with brochures and other publications. NMC staff showed the visitors copper samples and mining pit design and explained mining process to them. The staff stressed on the NMC commitment in protecting the environment and developing the communities in the surrounding rural areas close to the mine pit.
