Mining:

Orders were placed with Caterpillar for the supply of a mining fleet, including 365 excavators, 771D trucks, D8R dozers and a 140H grader. The equipment has begun arriving on site and earthworks has commenced.

Topographical surveys of the mine area have been completed with new total stations recently purchased.

Designs for the wadi bund designs are underway.
Offices have been established at Hatta and electricity connected. Offices will be fully functional when communications are established.
Negotiations are underway for contracts to haul the ore to the plant and fuel supply for the mining fleet.

Plant:

The concentrate dryer has been refurbished and is already being utilised to dry concentrate for the OMCO smelter.
The majority of components in the plant have been stripped and inspected, with plans developed to recondition all components.
Engineering contracts have been awarded to complete the refurbishment work at the plant.
Design of the tailings management facility is underway.

Exploration:

Exploration drilling was carried out in the Hatta, Shinas and Semdah regions.
Significant intersections were found at good thickness and grade.
New geological models will be created when a professional team of resource geologists and mine planning engineers are assembled – recruitment currently underway – the recourses and reserves will be updated at that time.
The exploration license for Ghuzayn was granted to NMC in 2005; this area shows indications of containing sizeable resources.
Further geophysical exploration and drilling will be carried out in all regions in 2006.
Manpower:
The NMC workforce now numbers approximately 80, 58% of which are Omani.
With the recruitment and training of operators for both the mine and plant, it is expected that the level of Omanisation will increase.
