Community Plan and Development
As a responsible corporate citizen, National
Mining Company (NMC), one of MB Holding’s
subsidiary companies, pursues business goals
with special emphasis on community development
through its ‘Community Management Plan (CMP).
CMP’s objective is to ensure that all
community stakeholders that may be negatively
affected by impacts of mining activities are
identified and there are mitigation plans in
place to address key issues. In addition, a
Community Development Plan (CDP) aims to
maximise the positive benefits of mining. Both
initiatives are based on sound socio-economic
data and social assessment and aims to
maximize the realization of opportunities
associated with the mining development, to
improve local livelihood and establish
sustainable development projects that will
endure beyond mine closure.
The issues being addressed in the community
development plan are broadly classified as
socio-economic issues e.g. benefits received,
distribution of benefits, behavioral changes,
community participation and awareness, related
land issues, environment, education and
health, women issues and an array of human
rights issues. NMC’s project aims to be
portrayed by the community as contributing to
the improvement of the quality of life,
addressing needs of the community and
maximising the positive impacts of mining.
